Behind the Scenes

Behind the Scenes

As a designer, it is important to communicate how you can positively impact a design. Recently, I partnered with a local realtor to redesign a one-bedroom condo for sale in Kihei, Hawaii.

The first step in design is to take a look at a space to get a sense of the surroundings and the intended purpose.  During my site visit, the first thing that caught my eye was the blue door. I wondered to myself if the color was throughout the condo. As I toured the condo, I soon realized, that not only was the color blue missing, but there was no consistent color throughout. It was a beautiful condo with great décor, but it needed a consistent look. To integrate the consistent look, there were two key elements needed.

First, the condo needed one color throughout.  Due to the modern accents in the condo I selected grey. Grey is a universal color that represents conservativeness, sophistication, practicality, maturity, reliability, and elegance. In addition, I integrated blue as an accent color. Adding the color blue was a way to bring the outdoors inside. The second element was to incorporate more texture and patterns to create a home-like feel.
