Planning a Destination Wedding
A few weeks ago I had a destination wedding on Kauai. The couple hired my company in early 2019. In 2019, the grooms’ mother began contacting planners in Colorado. I moved from Colorado to Maui almost four years ago. Due to my connections and technology I continue to offer my services in Colorado. I responded immediately and that is when my relationship with the entire family began.
The day before the wedding, I arrived on Kauai and everything was running smooth. The only concern was the weather. It was very windy and a great chance of showers. We revisited the back-up plan and decided to make a final decision by 10:00 AM the day of the wedding. Just before 10:00 AM on the day of the wedding, I presented the weather report and two options. The client elected to continue with the wedding ceremony, move the cocktail hour in a covered patio area. The reception was in the restaurant with open access to the pond area so there was no need to make any other plans.

On the day of the wedding, when the bride and groom joined the family just after the first look, I was so happy to see them. I told the bride that she looked like a princess and I was so happy for them. Shortly after that exchange, we began the wedding processional. Just as I was going to have the bride walk down the aisle, it began to sprinkle. I quickly asked the father of the bride to grab a clear umbrella and she continued to walk down the aisle. We already had umbrellas at the ceremony location for the guests. At this moment, I watched the bride make her way down the aisle. I immediately thought about the relationship we had formed. I knew how happy the bride was to marry her best friend. In that moment, I had this overwhelming thought of how sweet this moment was. Her walking with the umbrella was the sweetest thing. I said to myself, this image would be such a sweet moment to capture. As soon as the bride made her way to the ceremony alter, the rain stopped.
Event Planner Turns a Splash of Rain into a Sweet Moment
After the ceremony, we planned for the couple to walk back to me as the photographer gathered everyone for a group shot. As the couple made their way to me, the bride embraced me. She was shaking she was so happy and said “thank you for everything, we could not have done this without you”. I immediately said to her “absolutely my pleasure. I cannot wait until you get your pictures back. As you walked down the aisle with that umbrella, it was such a sweet moment. Once you receive your images back from the photographer, I am sure you both will cherish it forever. I am so happy for you both!”
